What is Zen walking meditation or kinhin meditation? How do I practice walking meditation?
Hello and welcome to the Ancient wisdom modern mind podcast and today would like to share with you a Zen walking meditation or kinhin meditation. This short podcast is an introduction to how to do walking meditation.
Walking meditation has origins in Buddhism and can be used as part of a mindfulness practice. The technique has many possible benefits and may help you to feel more grounded, balanced, and serene. It also helps you to develop a different awareness of your surroundings, body, and thoughts.
Typically, during walking meditation you walk in a circle, back and forth in a straight line or in a labyrinth. It’s also possible to do a walking meditation over a longer distance. The pace is slow and can vary depending on the specific technique. Often, practitioners do a walking meditation session between seated meditations.
The process of traditional Zen Walking meditation called Kinhin, It can be used at any time when you feel the need to 'unplug' yourself from the world and focus on self-care and inner harmony. It is also extremely beneficial to overall mental health, and can be used to completely relax your mind before you sleep by taking you to a place of pure relaxation and tranquility.
Walking meditation is something you can do indoors or outdoors, you can even practice Kinhin during your next nature hike for a big serenity boost, as it will enhance your entire experience as you hike. Zen walking meditation begins with the mudra or hand posture. There is more than one hand posture that is traditionally used, and we're going to start with the mudra that seems most popular.
